| Background: |
| In October of 2001,
Supervisor Roger Dickinson's Office requested
that the Planning Department present a Smart
Growth Workshop to the Board of Supervisors.
The workshop took place on June 5, 2002. Guest
speakers for the workshop included Paul Zykofsky,
Director of Land Use and Transportation Programs
for the Local Government Commission, Randall
Fleming, Managing Director of Community Development
and Planning Services in the Department of
Environmental Design at UC Davis, and John
Hopkins, President of the Institute for Ecological
Health. The Sacramento County Planning Department
also presented a presentation on Smart Growth
and how it relates to Sacramento County, by
Robert Sherry, former Principal Planner of
the Long Range Planning Division. |

THE GENERAL PLAN UPDATE WILL ADDRESS SMART
GROWTH |
Smart Growth has been included
as a topic to review for the General Plan
Update. From the Smart Growth workshop, the
Board of Supervisors gave direction to establish
Smart Growth principles for Sacramento County
and identify Smart Growth oriented policies
already found in the County's general plan. |
