Welcome to the General Plan Update Website

The County’s General Plan is undergoing its first comprehensive update since it was last adopted in 1993. This update is necessary to plan for growth in the next planning cycle (2005-2030) as well as to address new emerging planning issues. Some of the topics to be addressed in the Update Project can be found here. Twenty six Board Workshops, twelve focus groups and ten large community workshops have been held to date. Planning Commission Workshops
and Adoption Hearings

Sacramento County recently consolidated the Policy and Project Planning Commissions into a single County Planning Commission.  While previous discussions regarding the County’s General Plan Update process occurred with the former Policy Planning Commission, all future discussions and hearings will occur with the new County Planning Commission.  As such, Planning staff held a short series of informational workshops with the new County Planning Commission to provide the Commissioners with an overview of the scope and major themes of the Draft 2030 General Plan and related efforts, as well as a summary of the process to date.

A series of adoption hearings will begin before the Draft 2030 General Plan is forwarded for adoption hearings with the Board of Supervisors.  All future workshops and public hearings with the Planning Commission will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors’ chambers at 700 H Street in downtown Sacramento.  Hearing dates with the Planning Commission are scheduled for June 8 and June 22 with tentative dates on July 13 and July 27 if additional hearings are necessary. The agenda and materials for workshops and hearings will be posted to this website  approximately one week in advance.
